The golf course at Sedgefield Country Club was built in 1925.  Since 2008, it has held the PGA Tour event the Wyndham Championship.  It was also known as the Greater Greensboro Open and the Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic.  From 1938-1976, it alternated some years with Starmount Forest Country Club, the same tournament.

Before it became what it is today, it was owned by Southern Real Estate, who was going to build two golf courses.  Valley Brook was the first course and opened in 1926 but the second course was not built due to the Great Depression.  It had been a hunting preserved before they bought it.  The hunting preserved was owned by John Cobb, an industrialist.

Golf Course History

The Sedgefield Country Club golf course was created by Donald Ross.  The golf course opened in 1926 for play.  Sedgefield Country Clun and the Detroit Golf Club are the only two courses created by Donald Ross that is hosting a regular PGA Tour event.  Until 2007, when they did a $3 million restoration project, the course consisted of greens with Bentgrass.

The project restored the fairways and added greens with Championship Bermuda.  McConnell Golf LLC bought Sedgefield Country Club in 2011 and added new benefits for its members.  One of the new benefits was reciprocal access to the other McConnell Golf properties, of which there are fourteen.  This golf course has a par 70 and measures a length of 7,127 yards.
