History This Club
Muirfield Village Country Club was founded in 1974 by Jack Nicklaus, a professional golfer who is now retired. He also designs golf courses. In his career, he won 117 professional tournaments and 18 major championships. When he was an active golfer, he concentrated on three major championships, U.S. Open, Masters Tournament, and the PGA.
The country club was named after Muirfield, Scotland. This is where Jack won his first British Open title in 1966. He went on to win a total of three British Open titles and completed his first of three glam slams in his career at that country club in Scotland. Muirfield Village Golf Club, since its inception in 1976, has hosted the Memorial Tournament each spring. It is a PGA tour event.
In 1966, Jack bought the land to build the golf course but it did not open officially until 1974. This is when the first homes were sold, making it a notable, wealthy neighborhood. The community site development and master plan were created by Bassett Associates, located in Lima, Ohio.
