History Of Rolling Rock Club
Rolling Rock Club was founded by Richard Beatty Mellon and his brother, Andrew Mellon. After their father’s demise, Richard inherited 12,000 acres of land from him. Richard turned the ground into a retreat venue for family and close friends. Here, fishing, riding horses, and hunting took place.
In 1917, Rocking Rock Club was established. It is still the same as Mellon place. The Club was listed as one of the Platinum Clubs of America. This same year (1917), Donald Ross, a great golf course designer, made a 9-hole course. The course was lovely and commendable; in the late 20th century, it was hailed for being the best 9-hole golf course in the country.
Later, the Club expanded and renovated; another designer, Brian Silva, reformed the course into an 18-hole golf course.
The Club is said to be for old money, and foxhunting still takes place, which is rare in other clubs.
